Introducing Singer, Actor, Voice and Performance Coach – Carolyn T

Carolyn has been been an inspired singer since she was 14 years old. She would race home from school, put on a Whitney Houston record and write out all the lyrics one line at a time, and teach herself to sing the entire album, from beginning to end, before the rest of the family came home.
For over 25 years Carolyn has been singing Jazz, Soul, R&B and Funk in front of audiences big and small. Some of her musical influences are Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Jamiroquai, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, Michael McDonald and Whitney Houston.
Carolyn is known to wear a few hats. She has a very active and successful career running her own band in the corporate and wedding scene, she is a studio session singer, she sings backups for other bands, she is an actor who recently appeared as a supporting role in the TV series “Handsome Devils”, and she is a busy Voice and Performance Coach who loves to teach singing and public speaking to students of all ages through private sessions, master classes and workshops.
Most people know Carolyn as the host/creator of the very popular Open Jam Night @ Harlem 2009 – 2012
As a talented, powerhouse vocalist with a soulful vocal style, combined with passion, graciousness, presence and diligence, Carolyn’s versatility, intelligence and tenaciousness, makes her stand out amongst the brightest stars of Toronto’s Music scene!

Some of you seem to misunderstand what I do on a regular basis. What you all see is the singing, the band, the coaching and the jam which is awesome….but what most of you do not see is: marketing me and marketing my business, meeting/networking with potential clients, taking calls from corporate clients and students, scheduling students, writing up and sending quotes to corporate clients, negotiating contracts, writing up and sending contracts, creating invoices, scheduling band members, arranging sound equipment, setting up equipment, tearing down equipment, shooting and editing promo videos, updating my website, researching, subbing in with other bands, learning new tunes, session recordings, voice over/acting auditions, photo shoots, memorizing/learning scripts, video shoots, songwriting, meetings with sponsors, negotiating and sometimes renegotiating with venue owners, promoting my public gigs, troubleshooting, resolving conflicts, and soooooo much more.

I love what I do. Although it comes with big highs and huge lows, I love the results of my hard work…but please never assume that my life is like an episode of Disney. I work my tail off to pay my bills and exceed client expectations. My singing may look effortless but there is serious hard work behind it.Sometimes a girl’s just gotta vent…:)
